Tigers Fall In First Match Of NCAC/MIAA Challenge To No. 8 Calvin

Sandusky, OH – The Wittenberg University women's volleyball team headed north to the Cedar Point Sport Center for the NCAC/MIAA Crossover Challenge. The Tigers opened the weekend taking on AVCA Division III ranked No. 8 Calvin University on Friday evening, falling to the Knights 3-1 [25-27, 25-21, 25-13, 25-20]. Wittenberg tallied a .206 hitting percentage on the evening, led by Sarah Hettich with 14 kills on 27 total attacks. Katie Hiestand registered 11 kills on 30 swings for a .267 hitting percentage, adding eight digs and two blocks.

Wittenberg came out swinging, putting down 20 kills on 45 with just four errors for a .356 hitting percentage in the first set as a team. Calvin found their stride taking the second and third sets from the Tigers. Wittenberg responded going to battle against the Knights, holding Calvin to a .150 hitting percentage, allowing only six kills to fall.

Mack Ricketts and Ashley Brooks posted double-digit assists for the Tiger offense, with Ricketts finishing the night with 21 assists, Brooks tallied 19. Dakota White tallied a team-high 22 digs for the Red and White.

Wittenberg will return to action on Saturday from the Sandusky Sport Center taking on nationally ranked the No. 7 Hope College Flying Dutchman and rounding out the day against the Albion College Brittons.
