Tigers Take Down Marietta In Midweek Match

Springfield, OH – The Wittenberg women's volleyball team got back to their winning ways, returning to Pam Evans Smith Arena, taking down the Pioneers from Marietta College 3-1 [25-12, 25-15, 20-25, 25-16]. Coming off a long road series over the weekend at the Ohio Northern Invitational, where all three of the Tiger's matches went five sets, Wittenberg left no room for error holding the Pioneers to a .031 hitting percentage through the match. The Tigers were led by Katie Hiestand and Tyler Linkhart putting down double-digit kills for the Red and White. Hiestand tallied a team-high 15 kills on 38 swings, adding nine digs and two block assists to her credit. Linkhart posted 12 kills on 30 total attacks, including two block assists.

The Tigers controlled the first two sets of the action, putting together offensive numbers, which consisted of 15 kills on 30 swings and just five errors in the first set for a .333 clip. Wittenberg followed that up with great defense in the second set, holding the Pioneers to just three kills on 26 swings, leading to nine Marietta errors in the set. The Tigers closed out the match putting together a .371 hitting percentage, coming on 14 kills and 35 total attacks and just one error.

The Tiger offense was propelled by Ashley Brooks and Mack Ricketts, providing 18 and 16 apiece. Freshman Kendall Robertson smashed seven kills on 11 swings without any errors for a team-high .636 kill percentage, adding four block assists.

Wittenberg will return to action on Friday night, heading to Sandusky, OH for the MIAA/NCAC Challenge where they will take on Calvin University at 7:00 PM. The Tigers will return to the court on Saturday for matches against Hope and Albion.
