No. 22 Tigers Roll Through Hiram In Straight Sets

Hiram, OH – The No. 22 Wittenberg women's volleyball team hit the road to open up North Coast Athletic Conference action, kicking off the weekend of matches taking on the Terriers from Hiram College. Wittenberg closed out the Terriers in straight sets, earning their second consecutive 3-0 win, taking the match [25-18, 25-13, 31-29]. The Red and White fought of one final Hiram attack in the final set as the two sides went point for point before Wittenberg sealed the win. Katie Hiestand led the Tiger attack with 19 kills coming on 42 attacks finishing with a .333 kill percentage. Aubrey Cox followed up with nine kills of her own, as the pair finished with three blocks apiece. Taylor Yontz added 24 digs, while Ashley Brooks supplied 33 of the 36 total assists on the evening.

Match Breakdown

Wittenberg jumped out to an early lead in the first set, taking a quick 7-1 advantage before Hiram was forced to use their first timeout. Hiram worked their way back into the match, before a well-executed kill by Cox kept the Tiger lead at 10-8. The Tiger offense fended off the Hiram attacking maintaining a 15-10 advantage through the first set. Wittenberg would go on to take the set 25-18, logging a .122 attacking percentage through the first set. It was a tight battle through the early going to start the second set, as the Red and White maintained a 13-9 advantage over the Terriers. Wittenberg maintained their efficiency in the second set, planting 15 kills on 30 total attempts with just one error. The Tigers rounded out the night with an overall attacking percentage of .239, putting down 42 kills on 113 swings with just 15 errors in the straight-set victory. Gabi Hancock helped close out the win in the final set, finishing the night with seven kills on 15 attempts with just two errors on the evening.
