No. 3 Wittenberg Takes Out Wooster In Clean Sweep

Wooster, Ohio – It was a clean sweep for the Tiger volleyball team over NCAC rival Wooster, No. 3 Wittenberg took the win 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-15). The Tigers traveled to Wooster for an afternoon match, hitting .354 collectively on the day. Wittenberg improves to 7-0 in NCAC action and 18-2 on the season.

Who Stood Out

Aubrey Cox led the offensive attack with nine kills for the red and white, posting a team-high .474 kill percentage and team-leading three blocks. Taylor Brown and Haley Horner each provided eight kills and six digs apiece for the Tigers. Karen Wildemann provided 36 assists, along with six kills and six digs on the afternoon. Taylor Yontz led the Tigers with 17 digs, adding five assists.

First Set Breakdown

Wittenberg would jump out to an early 10-6 lead, following the Brown service rally. The Tigers extended their lead out to 17-8, with two kills by Wildemann and a service ace by Megan Flaherty. Wittenberg scored five straight points going up 22-9, as Wildemann picked up a pair of back-to-back kills. The Scots would exchange points with the Tigers trying to stay in the fight of the first set, as Wittenberg closed out the win.

Second Set Breakdown

The two sides would battle back and forth, as the match would be tied at 4-4, 7-7, and 9-9 through the early stages. Wittenberg would first take a two-point lead at 11-9, before going on a four-point run and extending their lead out to 15-10. A kill by Brown put the Tigers ahead by their largest margin of the set at 18-12, extending the advantage out to 21-13. Wittenberg maintained their advantage throughout the remainder of the set, taking the 25-16 win.

Third Set Breakdown

The Tiger waited to capture the final lead they need in the third set, overcoming the early Wooster two-point advantage. As the Tigers knotted things back up at 9-9, they would continue on their run extending their lead out to 17-9. Wittenberg extended their lead to 20-10, fending off a Wooster attack down the stretch for a 25-15 win.
