No. 5 Tigers Take Down Terriers

Springfield, Ohio – The No. 5 Wittenberg women's volleyball team made quick work of the Terriers from Hiram College on Friday evening, taking the match 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-20). The Tigers move to 13-2 on the season and look to hosting Allegheny on Saturday afternoon as the second part of the NCAC weekend.

Who Stood Out:

Haley Horner would lead the Tigers with 10 kills on 28 attempts, swinging .214 on the night. Senior Kennedey Schmidt was not far behind logging nine kills on the night. Horner and Schmidt would combine to provide big stops up front for Wittenberg with five blocks between them. Karen Wildemann provided 28 assists with four blocks and nine digs. 

First Set Breakdown:

The Tigers would jump out to an early lead in the first set, as Horner tallied three straight kills, giving Wittenberg the 7-2 advantage. Back to back kills by Taylor Brown would extend the Tiger lead out to 14-5 early in the match. Wittenberg would maintain a comfortable lead, as the Tigers would cruise to a first set win.

Second Set Breakdown:

Hiram would battle to keep it close in the first few points, but the Tigers would pull away after taking their first sizeable lead at 10-5. Wittenberg would extend their next largest lead out to 15-9 before the Tigers were on their way to allowing just six more points the rest of the set in the win.

Third Set Breakdown:

Wittenberg would start out with the early advantage in the third set, taking a quick lead at 8-4 and then 10-6. The Terriers would claw their way back into the match, coming back to within one point of Wittenberg 15-14. The Tigers would have to fend of Hiram over the final moments of the match, as the dogs were all bark and no bite. That is as close as the Terriers would come as Wittenberg would run away with the 25-20 victory.
