Tigers Open Up NCAC Action With 3-0 Win At Oberlin

Oberlin, Ohio – The third-ranked Wittenberg women's volleyball team traveled to Oberlin on Saturday afternoon to take on the Yeowomen and begin their journey in NCAC action. The Tigers took down Oberlin 3-0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-14). For the second match in a row, Kennedey Schmidt led the offensive attack with 12 kills on the afternoon, finishing the match with a .345 kill percentage. Aubrey Cox and Haley Horner would finish with 12 kills and 10 blocks combined, while Taylor Yontz and Lexie Weithman combine for 26 digs. Karen Wildemann would provide 24 assists with eight digs. The Tigers move to 10-1 on the season and 1-0 in NCAC play.  

First Set Breakdown

Wittenberg would come out swinging in the first set, taking down the Yeowomen 25-10 to start the match. The Tigers took an early 10-2 advantage as Schmidt continues to be a threat on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball for Wittenberg. Oberlin would bring the game back to as close as 12-8 before Wittenberg would go on a 13-0 scoring rally to take a 23-8 lead.

Second Set Breakdown

The Tigers would have to fight of the Yeowomen in the second set. The two sides would battle back and forth for the first few points, as Oberlin would tie the set early at 5-5. Wittenberg would capture the lead by going up 12-5 and then maintained their comfortable advantage at 23-8 through the remainder of the set.

Third Set Breakdown

Wittenberg would secure the victory with a 25-14 win in the final set. The Tigers would quickly take a 7-2 lead to start the final set. Wittenberg would extend their lead out to 13-4 after back-to-back kills from Schmidt and Gabi Hancock

Wittenberg will return to action Friday, Sept. 28 when they travel to Millikin University for three matches over the weekend, beginning with Illinois Wesleyan at 4:00 PM.
