#3 Women's Volleyball Splits Second Day Of ASICS Invitational

Huntingdon, Pa. – Coming off their first Top 25 win after taking down the Tartans of Carnegie Mellon on the opening night of the ASICS Invitational. The #3 Wittenberg women's volleyball team faced off against another ranked opponent, taking on the #15 Juniata College Eagles. The Tigers went the distance before taking down the Eagles to start the day in a five-set match, winning 3-2 (23-25, 25-18, 25-22, 22-25, 15-17). Wittenberg would pick up their first loss of the season, playing their second five-set match of the day this time to Christopher Newport University. The Tigers would fall to the Captains 3-2 (25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 18-25, 15-13).

 

Juniata Match

The Tigers were led by Haley Horner on the offensive attack as she collected 12 kills, adding six blocks. Karen Wildemann was the second Tiger to tally double-digit kills finishing the match with a .421 kill percentage. Wildemann finished with a triple-double with 10 kills, 15 digs, and 31 assists. Katie Hiestand and Aubrey Cox collected 17 kills between them, as each recorded a block on the afternoon against the Eagles.

 

Christopher Newport Match

Wittenberg was back in a fifth-set match for the second time on Saturday, taking on Christopher Newport. Kennedey Schmidt led the attack with 15 kills. Cox and Taylor Brown were each responsible for 12 kills, while Cox was credited with two blocks.

 

UP NEXT: Wittenberg will return to Springfield for their annual Fall Classic Weekend where they will welcome in nationally ranked teams like Ithaca College, Ohio Northern University and Thomas More College. The two-day tournament will begin on Friday, Sept. 14. The Tigers will play their first match at 8:00 PM against Ithaca.
