#1 Wittenberg Remains Unblemished with Two NCAC Road Wins

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—#1 Wittenberg women's volleyball improved to 15-0 with a weekend road-trip to Hiram on Friday night, and Allegheny on Saturday. The Tigers managed to win their third and fourth consecutive matches in straight sets, and are now 15-0 on the year with seven regular season matches remaining. The Tigers weekend sweep improves the team to 4-0 in NCAC play, with four conference matches left to play.

HOW IT HAPPENED: On Friday night, the Tigers downed the Terriers of Hiram 3-0 to the tune of 25-19, 25-16, and 25-22. The Tigers recorded a K% of .217 in the match, while holding Hiram to a .092 margin. Wittenberg's attack managed to produce 40 kills on Friday night, while Hiram was held to 30. On Saturday, Wittenberg defeated the Gators of Allegheny in straight sets, 25-13, 25-19 and 25-12. Wittenberg slugged a .381 K% in the match, while limiting the Gators to a .020 clip.

WHO STOOD OUT: Senior Maddie Fischer put together matches of 18 and 15 kills for a six-set total of 33, leading the Tigers attack. Sophomore Aubrey Cox produced 10 kills in the second match, complementing the Tigers attack in the middle. Sophomore Taylor Yontz contributed 26 digs over the weekend, while Fischer contributed 18. Freshman right-side Haley Horner came up big against Allegheny with a K% of .357, while the first-year Tiger performer accounted for 12.5 points in both matches combined.

WHAT IT MEANS: Wittenberg continues to ride their 15-game winning streak through NCAC play, as the Tigers started the weekend with a win over Coach Labrador's alma mater. The Tigers win Friday night over Hiram gives the red and white a 37-3 lead in the all-time series, while the Tigers now also lead the Gators 41-7 all-time. With four NCAC matches left to play, two will be played at Pam Evans Smith Arena. First the Tigers welcome Denison on October 11 at 7:00PM and then Wooster on October 21 as 12:00PM.
