#1 Wittenberg Defeats OWU and JCU in Straight Sets

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio-- #1 Wittenberg women's volleyball improved to 13-0 with two wins in straight sets against Ohio based opponents on Friday and Saturday night.  The Tigers defeated the Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops on Friday night to improve to 2-0 in NCAC play, and then turned around and defeated the Blue Streaks of John Carroll on Saturday night to get to 13-0. Wittenberg now looks to six straight NCAC contests, four on the road and two at home, before an end of the season tournament in Illinois.

HOW IT HAPPENED: In straight sets the Tigers defeated OWU; 25-13, 25-20 and 25-16. Wittenberg then turned around and defeated John Carroll 25-20, 25-10 and 25-13. OWU produced a K% of .067 on Friday, while JCU produced a K% of .109 on Saturday.

WHO STOOD OUT: Maddie Fischer combined for 19 kills in six-sets, as the senior led the Tigers to two victories. Taylor Yontz combined for 31 digs in both matches. Haley Horner capped off the Tigers attack, totaling 11 kills and 3.5 total blocks on Friday and Saturday.

QUOATABLES: "I thought our week of practice was very productive. We have great respect for Ohio Wesleyan and even without their leading hitter who was injured tonight, the Bishops put up a tough fight. Our servers executed our game plan very well and helped us slow the Ohio Wesleyan attack," said Coach Labrador on Friday night.

"The match tonight was a total team effort. It was great to see players make the best of their opportunities. We still have plenty of growing to do and this coming week will give us a chance to solve some problems we had early in the match," said Coach Labrador on Saturday night.
