Women's Volleyball Wins 10th-Straight NCAC Tournament Title

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—#7 Wittenberg women's volleyball captured their 10th-straight NCAC Tournament Title on Saturday with a 3-0 victory over DePauw University. The Tigers title is their 22nd NCAC Volleyball Tournament Title, leading the league, as Paco Labrador's team has booked their ticket to the NCAA tournament Division III Volleyball Tournament. Wittenberg opened up NCAC play against Oberlin, emerging victorious 3-1, before taking on Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday morning. After dropping the first set to a scrappy OWU team, the Tigers rattled off three consecutive set victories to earn a spot in the NCAC title match. The Tigers met up with the second place-seeded DePauw Tigers in the finals, who had not lost a set up until the championship match. Wittenberg now awaits the NCAA Division III selection show on Monday to learn where they will be headed in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

TOURNAMENT NOTES

  • The 2016 NCAC Volleyball All-Tournament Team was highlighted by Fischer, who earned tournament MVP honors.
  • Fischer produced 40 kills in the tournament, at a .348 hitting-percentage, on her way to MVP honors.
  • Sophomore setter Karen Wildemann joined Fischer on the all-tournament team with 111 assists, at a clip of 10.09 per-set.
  • Emily Kahlig led the tournament in blocks, as the senior totaled 13 on the weekend, over one per set.
  • Cox rounded out the all-tournament team selections for Wittenberg, as the Newcomer of the Year in the NCAC recorded 20 kills in her three matches.
