#7 Wittenberg Downs Oberlin and #21 Carnegie Mellon on Final Day of Regular Season

OBERLIN, Ohio—#7 Wittenberg volleyball closed out the regular season with a 2-0 day at Oberlin College on Saturday. Wittenberg concluded their NCAC regular season with a 3-0 win over Oberlin, locking up the NCAC Regular Season Title, as the team went unblemished in NCAC play for the sixth straight season. The Tigers then proceeded to down #21 Carnegie Mellon 3-2 in the first five-set match of 2016 for the red and white. Wittenberg will now play host to the NCAC Tournament on November 4-5 as the Tigers look to win their 10th consecutive NCAC Tournament Title.

OBERLIN NOTES

  • Wittenberg made quick work of Oberlin, downing the Yeowomen 3-0, with set scores of; 25-18, 25-22, and 25-23.  
  • Camila Quiñones paced the Tigers with eight kills, while fellow senior Kendall Farmer chipped in seven for the Tigers.
  • Karen Wildemann was all over the court for Wittenberg, as the sophomore recorded 30 assists in the match, and also led the Tigers with 11 digs.
  • As a team, Wittenberg produced a kill-percentage of .293 as Farmer paced the tigers with a .417 percentage of her own.

#21 CARNEGIE MELLON NOTES

  • Wittenberg avenged an early season loss to #21 Carnegie Mellon 3-2 on Saturday, in set scores of; 20-25, 25-16, 25-18, 19-25, and 15-8.
  • Maddie Fischer stole the show for Wittenberg, recording a career high and season high 22 kills in the five-set thriller.
  • Fischer's 22 kill day was the third match of 2016 that the junior has surpassed 20 kills in a match.
  • Aiding Fischer on offense was Quiñones and Farmer, who recorded 12 and 11 kills respectively for the Tigers.
  • On defense, Taylor Yontz and Wildemann combined for 43 digs, as sophomores Megan Flaherty and Madison Manger combined for 31.
  • Wildemann recorded a career high 48 assists in the Tigers 3-2 win over the #21 ranked team in the country.

  • "There was tons of good volleyball played today by all three teams in this tri-match. It is clear that everyone is peaking now as we all head into post-season play. We needed every bit of our depth today and I am proud of the entire team," said Coach Labrador.
