#5 Wittenberg Rolls Through Wooster; 3-1

WOOSTER, Ohio—Wittenberg women's volleyball took their #5 NCAA ranking into Wooster's Timken Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon to do battle with the Fighting Scots, as their NCAC road trip continued. Wittenberg has struggled finishing in the first set as of late, and on Saturday, the Tigers dropped the opening set to the Fighting Scots 26-24. What the Tigers have been doing well all year is responding; as the team went on to rattle off three consecutive set victories on their way to winning the match 3-1. Wittenberg and Wooster's NCAC battle finished with set scores of; 24-26, 25-20, 25-23, and 25-18. Played close all afternoon, the Tigers were led by outside hitter Maddie Fischer, who recorded 20 kills in the conference victory. Wittenberg improves to 10-3 overall in 2016, with a 4-0 NCAC mark, while Wooster falls to 13-4 and 2-2.

MATCH NOTES

  • For the second time in 2016, Fischer recorded 20 kills in a match, as the junior recorded 21 against Elmhurst on September 17.
  • Setting her up all afternoon were none other than Karen Wildemann and Megan Flaherty, who combined for 47 assists in the match.
  • Interestingly enough, Wildemann's 32 assists match a season high for the sophomore, as she also reached this feat against Elmhurst on September 17.
  • Madison Manger was all over the floor for the Tigers, recording 15 digs in the match.
  • As a team, the Tigers notched a .222 kill-percentage in the NCAC victory, as  Camila Quiñones led the Tigers with a .545 day.

FROM THE BENCH

  • "Wooster came ready to battle today and challenged us to play our best. There is no question that the level of play in the NCAC, top to bottom, is the best in the region. I am very proud of all of the players in our lineup, particularly our underclassmen, who are consistently finding a way to win," said Coach Labrador.

UP NEXT

  • Wittenberg continues their stretch of NCAC road matches with a tilt between the Battling Bishops of OWU in Delaware, Ohio on October 5. Match time is set for 7PM.
