Wittenberg Takes Two on Day Two of Mount Union Invitational

ALLIANCE, Ohio—Day two of the Mount Union Invitational was much more rewarding for the Tigers than day one, as the team managed to produce not one, but two wins before heading back to Springfield. Wittenberg squared off against Bethany in their first match of the day, downing the Bison in four sets; 25-22, 25-18, 21-25 and 25-15. With little rest between matches, the Tigers turned around and blanked the tournament host Mount Union 3-0 with set wins at; 25-21, 25-17 and 25-19. On a productive day to say the least, Wittenberg saw a great increase in their overall kill percentage, as well as a decrease in the errors they committed on the attack in comparison to the day before. With two wins under their belt Saturday, Wittenberg now sits at 2-1 on the year with a full slate of non-conference matches on tap in the upcoming weeks.

FROM THE BENCH

  • "It was nice to see us respond well after our loss last night. Bethany is a big, powerful, scrappy team who made us work for every point. Mount Union was playing short-handed and still played us very tough. Lots of young Tigers had their debut this weekend and played extremely well," said Coach Labrador.

UP NEXT

  • Wittenberg returns to action September 9-10 at the Juniata ASICS Invitational. The Tigers first match is on Friday against Carnegie Melon University, followed by double-header action on Saturday where Wittenberg squares off against Christopher Newport and host Juniata.
