GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The Wittenberg Tigers put the finishing touches on another dominating run through the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) regular season schedule with a 3-1 victory at DePauw.
The win was Wittenberg's 59th in a row in NCAC regular season play, with the last eight of those victories coming in the 2015 campaign. The sixth-ranked Tigers improved to 21-2 overall and 8-0 in the league, in the process clinching their 10th straight NCAC regular season title and 21st in the last 24 years.
Just as importantly, Wittenberg will be the No. 1 seed and host team for the 2015 NCAC Tournament, which will take place Nov. 6-7 at Pam Evans Smith Arena. The Tigers have won eight straight NCAC Tournament titles and 20 of the last 23 overall.
The latest win was anything but simple for the Tigers, who found themselves climbing out of a first set hole after the host team produced a 25-16 decision. The second and third sets were both closely contested, but in each case it was the visiting set of Tigers that came up with the key points, culminating in a pair of kills by junior middle hitter Kendall Farmer (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) that closed out the third set.
The momentum carried over into the fourth and final frame as Wittenberg attacked at a tremendous .429 clip, recording 13 kills against just one error in 28 attempts to close out the match with a 25-15 decision.
Senior right-side hitter Kara Seidenstricker (London, Ohio/Jonathan Alder) led the way for Wittenberg as usual. She pounded 15 kills on 44 swings at the net, and she added 13 digs and two blocks to the defensive effort.
Farmer added seven kills on just 11 attempts for a robust .227 attack percentage, and she added eight digs and four blocks to a fine all-around performance. Also of note, senior Bryanna Jay (Girard, Ohio/Girard) contributed six kills, freshman setter Karen Wildemann (Columbus, Ind./South) dished out 23 assists, and senior libero Kristina Fultz (Batavia, Ohio/Glen Este) topped the defense with a career-high 27 digs.
