Tigers Celebrate Homecoming With Sweep Of NCAC Rival Wooster

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers cycled 18 different players in and out of the lineup en route to a 3-0 Homecoming Weekend sweep of visiting Wooster.

The win was Wittenberg's 55th straight against North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) competition in the regular season, and the Tigers improved the Tigers to 14-1 overall on the 2015 season. Wittenberg continues to lead the NCAC with a 4-0 record, heading into a first-place showdown with fellow league unbeaten Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday, Oct. 7.

Wooster, which has not defeated Wittenberg since 1994, fell to 11-6 overall and 0-4 in the league.

Wittenberg won the match by set scores of 25-11, 26-24 and 25-17. Head Coach Paco Labrador rotated a wide variety of players in and out of the line-up throughout the match.

Sophomore Maddie Fischer (Minerva, Ohio/Minerva) led Wittenberg's offense with 12 kills and a .385 attack percentage, while freshman Kennedey Schmidt (Englewood, Ohio/Northmont) contributed a career-high eight kills on 12 swings for a stellar .583 attack percentage.

Freshman Megan Flaherty (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) dished out 20 assists, while senior Callan Swaim (Mooresville, Ind./Mooresville) was stellar defensively with 19 digs as the Tigers' libero.
