Tigers Stay Perfect In NCAC With OWU Sweep

Courtney Lauber

DELAWARE, Ohio — The Wittenberg volleyball team rolled to a 13-1 overall record and a 5-0 mark in North Coast Athletic Conference action with an expedient sweep of Ohio Wesleyan Wednesday night at Branch Rickey Arena.

Behind set scores of 25-8, 25-12 and 25-14, the Tigers stuck to business in racking up a team hitting percentage of .404, while holding the Battling Bishops to 15 kills against 18 errors. The match, while not the shortest of the season, lasted just one hour and 11 minutes.

Feeding the Wittenberg offense was freshman setter Courtney Lauber (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville), who set both a Tiger season best and a personal collegiate best with 32 assists in the match. She beat her previous personal best of nine, also set against Ohio Wesleyan this past weekend at the NCAC Power Weekend at Kenyon.

Lauber dished double-digit assists to two Tiger hitters, freshman Ali Hock-James (Cincinnati, Ohio/Amelia) and sophomore Andrea Behling (Columbus, Ind./North). Hock-James led the team with 11 kills while Behling hit for 10 kills on an attack percentage of .533.

Lauber finished with a set percentage of .457, meaning that almost half of her sets resulted in kills.

Behling also tallied two service aces to go with four blocks. Freshman Tessa Litman (Magnolia, Ohio/Sandy Valley) chipped in two blocks and two kills, and freshman Kate Shoemaker (Vallonia, Ind./Brownstown Central) hit for three kills and was second on the team with eight digs. Freshman Kiah Murray (Yorktown, Ind./Yorktown) put up four assists, two aces and a team-best 14 flawless receptions.

The Tigers return to the hardcourt on Saturday with a rare split-location day, opening at home at 1 p.m. with an NCAC match against Oberlin, and taking to the road for a 7 p.m. match at Otterbein. The Oberlin match will feature live audio and statistics on the Tiger Sports Network. Otterbein Sports Information will provide statistics for the nightcap.
