Tigers Make Quick Work Of Kenyon, Ohio Wesleyan To Start NCAC Power Weekend

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers were efficient in a pair of North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) victories over Kenyon and Ohio Wesleyan as four league rivals converged on Wittenberg's Pam Evans Smith Arena.

The fourth-ranked Tigers improved to 21-2 overall and, more importantly, ran their record to 11-1 in the NCAC. The 3-0 win over Kenyon came by scores of 25-10, 25-10, 25-13 and the 3-0 win over Ohio Wesleyan came by scores of 25-9, 25-12, 25-19. Wittenberg has now won 27 straight sets since a 3-0 upset loss at Hiram on Sept. 26.

In the win over Kenyon, juniors Kimmie Dyer (Copley, Ohio/Copley), Katie Sumner (Dublin, Ohio/Watterson) and Miranda Sagle (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) powered the offense, finishing with 22 kills among them. Dyer finished with a .333 attack percentage, while Sumner hit at a .500 clip and Sagle led both teams with a tremendous .600 attack percentage. Senior Amy Cox (Newark, Ohio/Catholic) dished out 26 assists, junior Christine Simpson (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) sparked the defense with three blocks and sophomore Christina Gilene (Milford, Ohio/McNicholas) chipped in with 14 digs.

Against Ohio Wesleyan, the Tigers were paced offensively by three players with eight kills apiece - junior Catherine Farny (Fort Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran), Sagle and junior Hillary Monnin (Russia, Ohio/Russia). All three had an attack percentage of at least .316, including Sagle with a blistering .571 to go along with three blocks. In addition, freshman Quin Gable (West Chicago, Ill./West Chicago) contributed two aces and Gilene led the defense with 17 digs.

Wittenberg wraps up the conference weekend competition with a match against Denison at 1 p.m. Sunday.
