Tigers Sweep Pair To Open NCAC Action

HIRAM, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers opened 2010 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) action with a pair of victories at the first of two Power Weekend events, sweeping past Oberlin and Allegheny in matches hosted by Hiram College.

The wins moved the Tigers to 12-1 overall and 2-0 in the NCAC, heading into a key Day 2 that includes a morning match against the host Terriers and an afternoon match against Wooster. Wittenberg extended its NCAC-record regular season conference win streak to 67.

Against Oberlin, the Tigers won by scores of 25-17, 25-17, 25-10 while resting several starters. Freshman Andrea Behling (Columbus, Ind./North) led the offense with nine kills and a stellar .400 attack percentage, while juniors Miranda Sagle (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) and Hillary Monnin (Russia, Ohio/Russia) added seven kills apiece. Both attacked at a .636 percentage, while Sagle added a team-best four blocks. Sophomore Hallie Donathan (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) dished out a career-best 33 assists, while sophomore Christina Gilene (Milford, Ohio/McNicholas) added four aces and eight digs.

In the nightcap, Monnin was tops in kills with 11 on a .526 attack percentage, while sophomore Jessie Batanian (Sylvania, Ohio/Notre Dame) added 10 with a .455 attack percentage. Sagle chipped in with eight kills, a .500 attack percentage and eight blocks. Donathan split the setting duties with senior Amy Cox (Newark, Ohio/Catholic), finishing with 19 assists to Cox's 20.
