Tigers Rule The Roost At Kenyon With Clean Sweep

GAMBIER, Ohio — The Wittenberg volleyball team made quick work of the Kenyon Ladies Tuesday night, sweeping their way to a 25-13, 25-3, 25-15 victory to move to 16-2 overall and 6-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) on the season.

Sophomore outside hitter Jessie Batanian (Toledo, Ohio/Notre Dame) led both teams with 14 kills on .571 hitting, while junior middle hitter Katie Sumner (Dublin, Ohio/Watterson) posted a .625 hitting percentage on her way to five kills.

The Tigers held Kenyon to just 31 total points in the match, and only nine of them came on kills. As a team, Wittenberg finished with an attack percentage of .508 to the Ladies' -.128.

The highly effective Wittenberg attack started with senior setter Amy Cox (Newark, Ohio/Catholic), who dished out 25 assists among 35 total team kills.

On defense, junior outside hitter Kimmie Dyer (Copley, Ohio/Copley) topped the charts with 11 digs, while sophomore libero Christina Gilene (Milford, Ohio/McNicholas) and Batanian each posted five.

The Tigers return to Springfield for a pair of matches this weekend, starting with a 7 p.m. contest with the Allegheny Gators on Friday, Oct. 8. The rematch of the season in the NCAC follows on Saturday when Hiram comes to Pam Evans Smith Arena for a 1 p.m. showdown that could determine the regular season conference champion.
