Tigers Rally Past Heidelberg For Key Regional Win

WOOSTER, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers put the finishing touches on another outstanding weekend, rallying past Great Lakes Regional rival Heidelberg 3-1.

After dropping the first set by a surprising 25-17 margin, the Tigers turned things around by scores of 25-23, 25-19, 25-23. The neutral-site win moved Wittenberg to 24-2 overall, while Heidelberg, a regional semifinalist a year ago, dropped to 23-5 overall.

The offense was powered by senior right-side hitter Jackie Williams (Rocky River, Ohio/Magnificat) and senior middle hitter Jessica Kimble (Dennison, Ohio/Claymont), who finished with 17 kills apiece. Junior setter Erin Slattery (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) added 30 assists to the attack.

Defensively, senior libero Laura Fender (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula) led all players with 35 digs, while senior outside hitter Kathleen Graham (Bowling Green, Ohio/St. Ursula) added three blocks.

Wittenberg has just one more regular season non-conference match left, that against Ohio Athletic Conference powerhouse Capital at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, in Springfield. The Tigers have five more North Coast Athletic Confernce (NCAC) regular season matches and most likely two NCAC Tournament matches remaining before the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Tournament Nov. 13-15.
