Wittenberg Rolls Past Ohio Wesleyan, 3-0

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers continued to roll through the 2008 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) schedule, passing the halfway point with a perfect record after a 3-0 win over Ohio Wesleyan.

The fifth-ranked Tigers improved to 21-2 overall and 9-0 in the NCAC with their second win over OWU in as many tries this season. Wittenberg looks to keep the streak going this weekend with games at Oberlin and Wooster, with a key Great Lakes Region match against Heidelberg, also on Saturday at Wooster.

The win came by set scores of 25-13, 25-14 and 25-19 as the Tigers were in control throughout. As always, things start on defense for Wittenberg, led by senior libero Laura Fender (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula) with 18 digs.

Her job was made that much easier by the fine work of the Tiger frontline, including junior middle hitter Kate Snead (Westerville, Ohio/South) with four blocks to go along with her six kills on a .667 attack percentage. Those numbers were accomplished in less than two full sets of work. In addition, senior right-side hitterJackie Williams (Rocky River, Ohio/Magnificat) was solid as usual with three blocks and a team-best eight kills on a .428 attack percentage.

Offensively, the Tigers also picked up a strong performance from senior middle hitter Jessica Kimble (Dennison, Ohio/Claymont) with seven kills and a .638 attack percentage. Junior setter Erin Slattery (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) paced the team in assists with 19.
