Wittenberg Sweeps Pair At Kenyon In Unusual Doubleheader

Kate Snead

GAMBIER, Ohio - The deep Tiger bench got a chance to come to the surface Wednesday versus Kenyon in a lopsided matchup in which the normal Wittenberg starters did not see the floor once. Wittenberg swept the Ladies in six straight games, going 3-0 (30-11, 30-12, 30-17) and 3-0 (30-12, 30-8, 30-13).

Coming up big for the Tigers in the first match was sophomore middle hitter Kate Snead (Westerville, Ohio/South), who hammered the opponents with a sizzling .786 attack percentage on 12 kills in 14 attempts. Also helping dominate the ball was freshman outside hitter Amy Cox (Newark, Ohio/Catholic), knocking down 12 kills in 19 attempts with no errors. The team combined for nine aces and a phenomenal 62 digs.

The second match played much differently, focused on stingy defense rather than blazing offense. Cox continued to rack up kills, earning six on 12 attempts, but stepped in as the setter as well, putting up 29 of the team's 33 assists. Altogether the Tigers put up 10 blocks, five solo and five on combos. Snead led the pack in that stat, on her own earning three blocked shots and combining with a teammate for three shared blocks.
