Tigers March On With Win Over Wooster

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers put the finishing touches on another perfect weekend with a 3-0 home win over Wooster on Senior Recognition Day in the HPER Center. 

The Tigers continued their dream 2007 season, pushing their record out to 26-0 overall and 10-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference with game wins of 30-19, 30-22, 30-21. Wittenberg has won 14 straight matches by 3-0 scores.

In honor of a five-player senior class - including outside hitterJan Kehres (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance)Emily Bell (Fort Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) and Lindsey Penrod (Piqua, Ohio/Piqua), setter Sarah Matesich (Granville, Ohio/Newark Catholic) and middle hitter Caitlin Augustus (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) - that will go down as one of the most successful in school history, the Tigers were sharp, as usual.

Kehres led the defense with 20 digs, followed closely by junior libero Laura Fender (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula) with 18. Up front, Augustus led with three blocks.

The offense was sparked by Bell with 12 kills and junior outside hitter Jackie Williams (Rocky River, Ohio/Magnificat) with 11 kills. Augustus added a team-high three aces and the setting duo of Matesich and sophomore Erin Slattery (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) combined to distribute 45 assists.
