Tigers Sweep Tri-Match At Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers are officially sending the university's sports information department into research mode as they captured two more wins Saturday at Wooster. By scores of 30-14, 30-25, 31-29 the Tigers defeated the host Scots, and then by scores of 30-27, 30-23, 30-20 the Tigers capped their day with a win over Ohio Athletic Conference power Mount Union.

The wins moved the second-ranked Tigers to 18-0 overall and 5-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Wittenberg has now recorded 31 straight regular season wins, dating back to a loss to Capital on Oct. 7, 2006, and 24 consecutive NCAC regular season wins, dating back to a loss to Hiram on Oct. 7, 2005.

Against Wooster, the reserves got their chance to shine, led by sophomore outside hitter Katherine Yuskewich (Columbus, Ohio/Watterson) with nine kills. Sophomore middle hitter Kate Snead (Westerville, Ohio/South) added seven kills and team-high three blocks, while sophomore outside hitter Leslie Clark (Marion, Ohio/Harding) chipped in with five kills.

Sophomore setter Kendall Obreza (Gainesville, Fla./Oak Hall) dished out 28 assists, and junior libero Laura Fender (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula) was solid as usual with 25 digs.

Against Mount Union, the Tigers dominated with the starters getting their work in for the day. Senior outside hitter Emily Bell (Fort Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran)showed the way as she posted a double-double with 16 digs and 12 kills. Also of note was the performance of senior outside hitter Jan Kehres (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance) with 17 digs and nine kills.

Senior setter Sarah Matesich (Granville, Ohio/New Catholic) led with 24 assists and Fender was tops on defense with 19 digs. Junior middle hitter Jessica Kimble (Dennison, Ohio/Claymont) chipped in with two blocks and 10 kills.
