Ohio And Michigan Split 16 Border Battle Matches

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - A day after the four Michigan representatives in the second annual Border Battle at Wittenberg took five of eight matches, the four Ohio teams bounced back to go 5-3 on Day 2 to earn an even split in the event.

Three teams finished 3-1 for the weekend, including nationally ranked Wittenberg and Ohio Northern for the Ohio side. The Polar Bears ended Calvin's hopes of a perfect run through four Ohio opponents on the weekend with a 3-2 win over the Knights on Saturday, and the two teams finished with matching 3-1 records, including 11-5 records in games. Wittenberg was just a step behind with a 3-1 match record and a mark of 10-6 in games after defeating Adrian, 3-2, and Hope, 3-1, on Saturday.

Adrian, Hope and Capital were all 2-2 on the weekend. Adrian was the only one above .500 in games at 8-7. Alma finished 1-3 on the weekend and Denison was 0-4.

The all-tournament teams will be announced soon. Voting for an All-Michigan squad and an All-Ohio squad was conducted near tournament's end and will be tabulated.

The results of the 2006 Border Battle were a significant departure from a year earlier when Ohio claimed victories in 14 of 16 matches.
