Wittenberg Cruises Past Earlham In NCAC Action

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Rotating liberally throughout the match, the Wittenberg Tigers got a look at many different combinations in a 3-0 home win over Earlham.

The Tigers improved to 15-4 overall and a perfect 6-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, heading into a key weekend road trip to Allegheny and nationally ranked Hiram.

Wittenberg tuned up for the excursion by defeating the Quakers by scores of 30-23, 30-23, 30-20. At least three starters never took off their warm-up jackets, instead leaving the heavy lifting to young players like freshman outside hitter Laura Schumaker (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee), who finished with seven kills. Junior outside hitterLindsey Penrod (Piqua, Ohio/Piqua) showed the way offensively with 10 kills.

Sophomore libero Laura Fender (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula) had a fine all-around match, contributing four aces and 26 digs.
