Wittenberg Sweeps Oberlin In NCAC Action

OBERLIN, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers emptied the bench on Friday night, giving some valued reserves their opportunity to shine in a 3-0 victory over the Oberlin Yeowomen. 

The Tigers swept the match by scores of 30-14, 30-22, 30-21 to improve to 11-4 overall and 3-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. The opportunity to rest the starters was big for the Tigers, who next embark on a three-match odyssey Saturday that starts with two matches at Wooster and ends with a 7 p.m. match at Ohio Wesleyan.

Freshman outside hitter Leslie Clark (Marion, Ohio/Harding) led the Tigers offensively with an efficient 10-kill performance. She did not make an error on 19 attack attempts in the match. In addition, freshman outside hitter Laura Schumaker (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) added seven kills and freshman outside hitter Alison Thompson (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) chipped in with six kills.

Distributing the ball was freshman setter Kendall Obreza (Gainesville, Fla./Oak Hall), who finished with 32 assists. Defensively, the Tigers got big matches from freshman Brittany Gordon (Los Altos, Calif./Kings Academy), who contributed 22 digs, and freshman middle hitter Katie Snead (Westerville, Ohio/South), who had five blocks. Also, freshman Sarah Heider (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont) chipped in with three aces.
