Wittenberg Sweeps Denison To Open NCAC Action

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers kicked off a busy weekend with a 3-0 sweep of the Denison Big Red.

The match, a prelude to the second annual Border Battle at Wittenberg, moved the Tigers to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Denison lost its second straight NCAC match after opening the season with seven consecutive victories.

The Tigers were in control from the outset, taking the games by scores of 30-20, 30-10, 30-20. Sophomore libero Laura Fender (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula) led the defense with 22 digs, while junior middle hitter Caitlin Augustus (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) added six blocks.

Offensively, junior outside hitter Lindsey Penrod (Piqua, Ohio/Piqua) topped the squad with 10 kills. She posted a tremendous .526 attack percentage. Sophomore outside hitter Jackie Williams (Rocky River, Ohio/Magnificat) added eight kills and junior outside hitter Jan Kehres (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance) chipped in three aces.
