Wittenberg Sweeps Kenyon To Remain Unbeaten In NCAC Play

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers are in need of some momentum heading into the stretch run of the 2006 season. Tuesday's 3-0 home win over Kenyon was a good start.

Wittenberg improved to 19-6 overall and 9-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference with the win, heading into a busy weekend that includes a Friday road trip to Ohio Wesleyan and a Saturday tri-match at Denison that also includes Heidelberg.

After unexpected stumbles each of the last two weekends, the Tigers came out strong, capturing the win by game scores of 30-19, 30-16, 30-18. The leader on defense was sophomore libero Laura Fender (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula) with 18 digs. Junior Emily Bell (Fort Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) added 12 digs, to go along with 15 kills.

Offensively, the Tigers were efficient, led by sophomore Jackie Williams (Rocky River, Ohio/Magnificat) with 16 kills. Controlling the action was junior setter Sarah Matesich (Granville, Ohio/Newark Catholic) with a game-high 28 assists.
