Wittenberg Defeats Waynesburg To Round Out Perfect Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers proved to be a most ungracious host, as they dominated their third and final opponent of the Wittenberg Invitational. For the second time in a week, the Tigers defeated Waynesburg College 3-0. The win moved the now third-ranked Tigers to 7-0 on the season and gave them the tournament title.

Wittenberg cruised to a 30-28, 30-14, 30-10 victory. It was the sixth time in seven matches that the Tigers failed to surrender a single game to their opponent.

Once again the Tigers were led by their veteran middle hitters; senior Kristin Fox and Junior Emily Dixon led the offense with 10 kills a piece. Senior Emilie Schmid continued to prove she is one of the best liberos in the nation, coming up with 27 huge digs. Senior Aubrey Anderson was also excellent for the Tigers, chipping in with 4 service aces. The Tigers also turned to their talented freshman class, as Jan Kehres served off 16 straight points in the third game to all but bury the Yellow Jackets.

The Tigers named three players to the All-Tournament Team: Senior Kristin Fox was named tournament MVP, while senior Sarah Yuskewich and freshman Emily Bell were also selected.

The Wittenberg Tigers will travel to St. Louis next weekend, where they will undoubtedly face their biggest challenge of the season. The Tigers will play Trinity University, Juniata College, and Washington University, all of which are nationally ranked opponents.
