Wittenberg Downs Nationally Ranked Elmhurst

ELMHURST, Ill. - Defeating a quality opponent on its own home court is never an easy feat, but the Wittenberg Tigers made it look relatively easy on Saturday with a 3-0 win over the Elmhurst Blue Jays in the third match of the Elmhurst College Volleyball Invitational III. The win, earned with game scores of 30-24, 30-22, 30-19, improved Wittenberg to 23-1 overall on the 2004 season heading into the tournament finale against Wisconsin-Whitewater, also a nationally ranked outfit.

The Tigers overwhelmed the Blue Jays, who have been ranked as high as No. 12 nationally this season, as junior Emily Dixon led with 10 kills, followed offensively by senior Kristin Fox with nine kills and senior Monica McDonald and freshman Emily Bell with eight kills apiece. Senior Sarah Yuskewich added four blocks and senior Emilie Schmid turned in 28 digs.

With this 3-0 win, the Tigers are on a streak of eight straight victories without yielding even a single game. Going into the Wisconsin-Whitewater match, Wittenberg has played just two matches all season that haven't resulted in 3-0 scores, including a loss by that margin at Washington University. For the season, Wittenberg has lost just six games total in 24 matches.
