Tigers Open Tournament With Easy Win Over Gators

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers continued their dominance over North Coast Athletic Conference foes with a convincing 3-0 win over Allegheny. The win pushed the Tigers to 11-1 on the season, 2-0 in the NCAC and 1-0 in the Wittenberg Invitational II.

For the 10th time this season the Tigers didn't surrender a single game, winning the match easily with scores of 30-9, 30-18 and 30-11. Several Tigers turned in outstanding performances in the opening match of the Wittenberg Invitational II. The Tigers were led offensively by junior Linda Young and her 11 kills. Senior Monica McDonald turned in a big match both offensively and defensively, contributing eight kills and 10 digs. And senior Emilie Schmid continued her excellent play at the libero position, turning in 27 digs, while senior Sarah Yuskewich, last week's National Player of the Week, chipped in with 36 assists and 5 blocks.

The Tigers continue play in the Wittenberg Invitational II tonight at 8:30 p.m. when they take on Calvin College. Calvin is 10-3 on the season and 0-1 in the tournament after falling to seventh-ranked Ohio Northern in the opening game of the tournament.
