Tigers Defeat Yellow Jackets, Claim Fourth Tournament Title of the Year

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - A rarity occurred Saturday afternoon in the HPER Center...the Wittenberg Tigers surrendered a game to their opponent. It was the first time in eight home matches that a visiting team was able to break the goose-egg next to their score. After dropping the first game, things quickly returned to normal as the Tigers went on to make quick work of Baldwin Wallace, taking the match 3-1. The victory stretched the Tiger win streak to 5 matches and pushed their overall record to 14-1, 2-0 in the NCAC. The win also gave the Tigers their fourth tournament championship of the season.

The Wittenberg Tigers were once again powered by the right arm of senior Monica McDonald. She led the offensive charge for the Tigers with a team-high 17 kills. Junior Emily Dixon was also super, driving home 14 kills, while freshman Emily Bell continued her great play with 12 kills. Senior Sarah Yuskewich shared the wealth, dishing out a tournament high 65 assists.

Senior Emilie Schmid was honored after the match for her play in the tournament by being selected to the Wittenberg Invitational II All-Tournament team. It is the second time this season that she has received such an honor.

The Wittenberg Tigers are back in action next Tuesday, September the 28th at 7:00 PM (CST). They will travel out of state to face the Quakers of Earlham College (4-11, 0-0 NCAC) in a North Coast Athletic Conference match-up.
