Wittenberg Defeats Waynesburg to Cap Juniata Tournament Championship

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Wittenberg Tigers put the finishing touches on an outstanding opening weekend to the 2004 season with a 3-0 victory over Waynesburg in the final match of the Juniata Tournament. The win moved the eighth-ranked Tigers to 4-0 on the young season and gave them the tournament title.

Wittenberg rolled to a 30-16, 30-22, 30-23 victory. It was the third 3-0 victory in four matches at the season-opening Juniata Tournament.

Senior Monica McDonald was outstanding, contributing 16 digs and 10 kills to the team's winning effort. Senior Kristin Fox led the team's offense with nine kills, thanks in part to senior Sarah Yuskewich and her team-best 42 assists. Freshman Lindsey Penrod chipped in with four blocks and senior Emilie Schmid was at her usual best with 31 digs.
