2018 NCAC Outdoor Championship Day Two Recap

Meadville, Pa. – The Wittenberg University Track and Field team closed out the 2018 NCAC Outdoor Championships on Saturday. The Tigers collected six of their eight All-NCAC awards on the second day of competition. The Wittenberg women's team would take fifth-place with 77 points, as the Tigers finished one spot ahead of their projection going into the weekend. The men's team would finish in seventh-place, collecting 47.50 points. Freshman Alexis Johnson earned the 2018 NCAC Newcomer of the Year award after scoring 14.50 points for the Tigers over the course of the two-day meet. Individually, she finished fourth overall in both the long jump (17'11.00") and the triple jump (35'09.50"), while also running a leg on the third-place 4x100-meter relay team that finished in 49.27 seconds.

 

Starting the second day of field events, Taylor Barnhisel was the first to earn All-NCAC Honors, taking second-place in the javelin throw with a toss of 34.96-meters. As the running events heated up, Alexis Gray would take the top spot in the 800-meter run with a final time of 2:18.31. The 4x100-meter relay team of Ryelee Clary, Tiarra Avant, Samantha Mitchell and Johnson took third-place in a time of 49.27 seconds. Clary would return to collect All-NCAC Honors in the 100-meter hurdles, taking the top spot with a final time of 15.22 seconds. Johnson would come in to add a sixth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 16.56. Avant would earn a seventh-place finish in the 400-meter dash, finishing with a time of 1:03.99. As the day carried on, Samantha Mitchell would take fourth-place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.98 seconds. Returning to action in the 400-meter hurdles, Barnhisel took fourth-place with a time of 1:07.55. The 4x400-meter relay team of Mitchell, Barnhisel, Anna Lebold, and Gray, rounded out the running events with a fourth-place finish in a time of 4:07.43.

 

Wittenberg would collect All-NCAC in the men's triple jump as Tay Morton cleared a distance of 13.38-meters for a third-place finish. Going from distance to height, Morton would take sixth-place at the high jump, clearing a height of 1.80-meters. As the men's team transitioned to the track, Kyle Farnbauch earned his first individual All-NCAC finish, taking third-place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.77 seconds. Farnbauch would take sixth-place in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.79 seconds. As the day continued, Charles Rodeheffer took fifth-place in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:31.06. The 4x400-meter relay closed out the day, as the Wittenberg team of David Haake, Maurice Graham, Kenny Mayes, and Charles Samuel took sixth-place in a time of 3:27.23.
