All-Academic Teams & Scholar Teams of the Year in NCAA DIII Track & Field

NEW ORLEANS – Scholar Teams of the Year and All-Academic Team honors for the 2016-17 NCAA Division III Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field seasons were announced Thursday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

In order to be in contention for Scholar Team of the Year, a program must finish highly at the respective national championship meet and have at least a 3.00 cumulative team GPA.

There were two different teams named Men’s Scholar Team of the Year, while the Washington (Mo.) women swept the women’s honors.

The Bears were the rightful winners of the Women’s Indoor and Outdoor Scholar Team of the Year as they won both the indoor and outdoor team titles and maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.55. This is the first time in program history that Washington (Mo.) has been named Women’s Scholar Team of the Year for track & field.

North Central (Ill.) was named the Men’s Indoor Scholar Team of the Year after capturing the indoor team title and maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.15. This is the first time in program history that the Cardinals have been bestowed this honor.

UW-Whitewater was named the Men’s Outdoor Scholar Team of the Year after finishing runner-up at the NCAA DIII Outdoor Track & Field Championships and maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.15. The Warhawks are the third team from Wisconsin to be honored with this award in the past seven years joining UW-Eau Claire and UW-La Crosse.

All-Academic Teams

A total of 294 teams (183 women’s, 111 men’s) were honored for their academics by the USTFCCCA.

The highest cumulative GPA of any team belonged to the women from Saint Vincent College. The Bearcats held down a GPA of 3.727 to edge Mount Holyoke College’s 3.72.

California Institute of Technology and Middlebury College tied for the men’s lead with cumulative GPAs of 3.62.
