Medlock and Wallace to Represent Wittenberg at NCAA Division III Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio-- This year, seniors Laike Wallace (Washington Court House, Ohio/Washington) and Brea Medlock (Galena, Ohio/Big Walnut) will be representing Wittenberg at the 2016 Division III National Track & Field Championships. The Wittenberg Track & Field program will travel to Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa to compete on May 26th through the 28th.

Laike Wallace qualified to race the 400-meter hurdles at the championships. He has also dominated the 110-meter hurdles during his 2016 spring season. Wallace was named North Coast Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for back to back weeks in March for his performance on the track. He began the season at the Emory Invitational, coming across the finish line with a time of 53.38, the fastest time in the country at the time for Division III. All of his hard work and dedication paid off, as he wraps up his career with four first place finishes and a best of 52. 84 in the 400-meter hurdles this season. Wallace will compete in the prelims at 4:00 PM on Thursday, May 26th and at 3:15 PM on Saturday, May 28th if he makes it into the Finals. Wallace is seeded sixth in the nation for Division III.

Brea Medlock qualified to compete in the 400-meter dash at the upcoming meet. She has participated, and posted records, in other events, including the 200-meter dash and the 4x400 meter relay. Early in the season, Medlock held the school record for the 400-meter dash, with a time of 56.21 seconds, and broke it again at the North Coast Athletic Conference championship meet, replacing the prior time with 55.97 seconds. Her 400-meter dash time is not only a Wittenberg record, but also a NCAC record and the time that qualified her for the national meet. She was also on Wittenberg's All-Ohio relay team that set the meet record of 3:56.34 in the 4x400-meter relay. Given her athletic skills and record-breaking performance, Medlock was named North Coast Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week in April. Medlock will race in the prelims at 5:00 PM on Friday, May 27th and at 2:20 PM on Saturday, May 28th if she makes it into the Finals. Medlock is seeded 22nd in the nation for Division III.
