Tiger Women’s Track & Field Team Earns National Academic Award

Springfield, Ohio – Wittenberg University’s women’s track & field team has been recognized for excellence in the classroom with 2014 All-Academic Team honors from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). 

The 41 student-athletes on the 2013-14 Wittenberg women’s track & field roster combined to post an outstanding grade point average of 3.12 for the spring 2014 semester. To be considered for the award, a team must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.1 or better. A total of 158 NCAA Division III women’s track & field team earned All-Academic Team laurels in 2014. 

“I am very proud of the work done in the classroom and on the track by the members of our program during the 2013-14 school year,” said Wittenberg Head Coach Craig Penney. “It takes great discipline to balance schoolwork and competition requirements, but these student-athletes have proven that they are up to the challenge.” 

Wittenberg placed fifth in both the indoor and outdoor championship meets sponsored by the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) during the 2013-14 season. Along the way, nine Tiger student-athletes earned a total of 13 All-NCAC awards in recognition of top-three finishes in the league championship meets.
