Women's Tennis closes regular season with 9-0 victory over Ohio Wesleyan, clinches No. 3 seed in NCAC Tournament

SPRINGFIELD — The Wittenberg women's tennis team closed its regular-season schedule Wednesday with a 9-0 victory over Ohio Wesleyan in North Coast Athletic Conference play. With the win, the Tigers clinched an outright third-place finish in the conference standings, marking their best finish since 2006 after tying for third place a year ago. With 13 victories on the season, Wittenberg has posted its best single-season win total since the 2010-11 campaign, when it finished 19-6.

The Match

  • Wittenberg opened the match by winning all three doubles courts.
  • Sproule and freshman Kylie Wilson (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, freshmen Breanna Ball (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy) and Sophia Pischalko (Granger, Ind./Penn) won 8-1 at No. 2, and freshmen Claire Loomis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) and Lilly Hartman (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) won 8-4 at No. 3.
  • The Tigers closed out the match by sweeping all six singles courts.
  • Sproule won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Wilson won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2, Loomis won 6-1, 0-6, 10-1 at No. 3, Pischalko won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4, and Ball won 6-2, 6-3 at No 6. Hartman won via third-set retirement at No. 5 after splitting the first two sets 1-6, 7-5.
