Women's Tennis wins 6-3 at Wooster, clinches at least a share of third place in conference standings

WOOSTER — The Wittenberg women's tennis team won 6-3 at Wooster in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Sunday, clinching at least a share of third place in the conference standings with one game left in the regular season. The victory was the Tigers' 12th of the season, which marks their most single-season wins since finishing 12-12 in 2011-12.

  • Junior Caroline Sproule (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) is ranked among the top eight singles players in NCAA Division III Region 5 in the latest rankings, which were released on April 15.
  • Freshman Lilly Hartman (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) is the reigning NCAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week.
  • Wittenberg is now 32-19 all-time against Wooster.

The Match

  • Wittenberg opened the match by winning two of the three doubles courts. Sproule and freshman Kylie Wilson (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) won 8-4 at No. 1, and freshmen Sophia Pischalko (Granger, Ind./Penn) and Breanna Ball (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy) won 8-4 at No. 2. Freshman Claire Loomis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) and Hartman fell 6-8 at No. 3.
  • Pischalko and Ball went 2-0 on the day, as they both won their singles matches. Pischalko won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4, and Ball won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5.
  • Loomis and Hartman also won in singles, clinching the match for Wittenberg. Loomis won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3, and Hartman won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
  • Both Nos. 1 and 2 singles went to third-set tiebreakers. Sproule fell 6-2, 1-6, 1-6 at No. 1, and Wilson fell 3-6, 6-2, 5-7 at No. 2.
