Tigers Open NCAC Tourney With 5-3 Loss Against Oberlin

Indianapolis, Indiana – The fifth-seeded Wittenberg University Women's Tennis team opened the 2019 NCAC Women's Tennis Tournament with a narrow 5-3 setback against fourth-seeded Oberlin on Friday afternoon at the Barbara S. Wynne Tennis Center on the campus of North Central High School in Indianapolis. Despite falling in the opening round, the Tigers will now get the opportunity to play for fifth place in the NCAC Tournament, taking on sixth-seeded Wooster tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. at North Central H.S.

Who Stood Out

The Tigers fell behind early in the match by a 2-1 decision, and played tough throughout competition in the singles portion of the match, but ultimately fell short by a 5-3 margin against the Yeowomen.

In doubles action, the senior tandem of Carli Milano and Alivia Livesay came away with a hard-fought, 8-5 victory in the second flight, while the duo of sophomore Kathleen McGuff and freshman Sarah Wilke dropped an 8-4 match in the third flight.

In singles action, Wittenberg picked up two victories and battled tough in every other match. Junior Sarah Gallup was a 7-5, 7-5 winner over Francesca Kern in the second flight, while sophomore Harunya Ravindran collected a 6-4, 6-1 win over Maja Shaw Todorovic in the fourth flight.

The match ultimately came to an end in the fifth flight as Wilke dropped a narrow 7-5, 6-3 decision against Alandria Bellamy. Despite her match not finishing, Livesay helped keep the match going by forcing a third set in the third flight against Claudia Olaes. After losing the first set 6-4, Livesay picked up a 6-4 win over her own in the second flight, before the match ended with the third set all tied at 2-2.
