Tiger Tennis Shines Against Trine as Both Programs Emerge Victorious

ANGOLA, Indiana—Wittenberg tennis got off to a hot start in 2016 with both programs downing Trine at the Ryan Tennis Center in Angola, Indiana over the weekend. The Tigers women's program led the way with a convincing 8-1 victory on Saturday, while the men's team handled their business on Sunday, 6-3. For the second year in a row, both Tiger tennis programs start off the fall season at 1-0. Both Wittenberg programs take their hot start back to Springfield where the team will know shift gears to focus on the Bulldogs of Adrian College, who come to town on September 16.

 

WOMEN'S NOTES

  • Carli Milano picked up where she left of in 2015 with a singles victory out of the number one position on Saturday, 6-1 and 6-2.  
  • Petyon Carroll, Sarah Gallup, Alivia Livesay, Sarah Frisch, and Nora Jacobson all emerged from Saturday match victorious in singles play.
  • Gallup downed Trine from the number three position with a 6-1, 6-1 victory, while Livesay followed suit out of the number four position with a 6-2. 6-0 victory.
  • The Tigers shined bright in their doubles matches on the day, as the team of Carroll and Gallup defeated their opponent out of the number two doubles position 8-3, and Livesay and Hannah Bowman did the same out of the number three position at 9-8.

 

MEN'S NOTES

  • Wittenberg downed Trine 6-3 on Sunday, highlighted by Martin Mora and Luke Minard's victory out of the number one doubles spot, 8-4.
  • The Tiger tandem of Matt Arroyo and Timmy McNulty also shined bright, winning in number two doubles, 8-2.
  • From Sunday's singles, Arroyo handled business for Wittenberg out of the number two position, 6-2 and 6-4.
  • Minard started his sophomore year off with a 6-0, 6-1 victory in number three singles for the Tigers, the most dominant victory for the Tigers on the day.
  • McNulty and Caleb Astwood rounded out the Tigers day with victories in number four and five singles.

  • Both Tiger programs return to action on September 16 in Springfield, taking on the Bulldogs of Adrian College at 5:00PM.
