HILTON HEAD, SC - The Wittenberg women's tennis team ended a successful Spring Break trip to South Carolina on a down note with a 5-4 loss to Marietta.

The Tigers will head home with a 5-2 overall record, while Marietta improved to 1-7 on the season.

The Pioneers started with two wins in three doubles matches, which turned out to be the difference. Wittenberg's lone point in doubles was provided by freshmen Chelsea Reeder (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) and Olivia Underwood (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Marian) at the No. 1 position by an 8-2 score.

Reeder added a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles, and she was joined on the winning side of the ledger by sophomores Morgan McDermott (Wheeling, W.Va./The Linsley School) at No. 2 and Jaimie Whaley (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) at No. 4. Both McDermott and Whaley earned their victories with third-set tiebreakers.

The Tigers return home this weekend before traveling to nationally ranked DePauw on Sunday, March 16, to open North Coast Athletic Conference play.
