Tigers Kick Off 2013-14 Season With Big Win Over IU-East

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers opened 2013-14 season match play with a 7-2 victory over visiting Indiana University-East.

The match was Wittenberg's first of the fall season after several weeks of preparation. It kicks off a busy final week of the fall campaign, which continues on Friday and Saturday with three matches.

The match opened with a doubles sweep for the Tigers. Freshmen Olivia Underwood (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Marian) and Chelsea Reeder (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) were 8-2 winners on the first court, while junior Lexi Garza (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) and sophomore Jaimie Whaley (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) added an 8-3 decision at No. 2. Sophomore Morgan McDermott (Wheeling, W.Va./The Linsley School) paired with senior Andrea Gaietto (Tiffin, Ohio/Calvert) for an 8-0 victory at No. 3 to send the Tigers into singles with plenty of momentum.

Reeder and McDermott were straight sets winners at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Gaietto was pushed to three sets at No. 4 and Whaley was a 6-0, 6-1 victor at No. 6.
