Tigers Split A Pair At DePauw

GREENCASTLE, Ind. — The Wittenberg women's tennis team opened the final leg of the 2011-12 season with a split of two matches at DePauw, losing to the host Tigers 9-0 in their first-ever North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) match before bouncing back to defeat Franklin 8-1.

The split left the Wittenberg Tigers with an overall record of 5-7. The DePauw Tigers came into the match ranked sixth nationally.

Five of the six Tigers in the line-up against Franklin were double-winners on an unseasonable warm and sunny afternoon. Senior Alex Cummins (New Lebanon, Ohio/Dixie) led the way with wins at No. 1 singles and doubles, where she paired with senior Kacia Nolan (Indianapolis, Ind./Speedway). Nolan added a win at No. 3 singles.

Junior Kristin Wright (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) was a winner at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles, where she paired with sophomore Jessica Coggins (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva). Sophomore Andrea Gaietto (Tiffin, Ohio/Calvert) and junior Lisa Berman (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) rounded things out, teaming up to win at No. 3 doubles before winning at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
