Tigers Shut Out Capital, 9-0

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers took care of business on a cold, windy afternoon, rounding out the home portion of their 2010-11 season with a 9-0 whitewashing of Capital.

The win extended the Tigers' record-breaking season, moving their record to 17-4. Wittenberg's previous high for wins in a season was 15, accomplished three times (most recently in 2008-09).

The Tigers dropped just one game in three doubles matches and didn't let up in the singles competition. Four of the matches finished with 6-0, 6-0 scores and Wittenberg dropped just three games total among the six matches.

Freshman Leah Ann Miller (Springfield, Ohio/Catholic Central) was a winner at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles with freshman Emma Bilyeu (Terre Haute, Ind./Vigo). Senior Jayne Miely (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) added wins at No. 2 singles and No. 3 doubles with senior Rachel Bundy (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover), who captured the victory at No. 5 singles.

Rounding things out, juniors Anne Beauch (North Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) and Maggie Stewart (Bay Village, Ohio/Magnificat) teamed up to win at No. 1 doubles and then Beauch won at No. 3 singles and Stewart at No. 4. Sophomore Kristin Wright (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) capped the singles competition with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6.

The wins set the stage for an important Easter Weekend road trip to Oberlin. The Tigers first play Allegheny on Saturday and then take on the host Yeowomen.
