Tigers Split At Franklin; Individuals Perform Well At ITA Central Region Championships

FRANKLIN, Ind./OBERLIN, Ohio - The Tiger women's tennis team put together their first team victory of 2008-09, taking down host school Franklin 6-3 before falling to Lewis University, 9-0.

In the first match, the Tigers won one of the three doubles matches, before rallying to take five of the six singles flights to cement the win. Freshman Alexandra Cummings (New Lebanon, Ohio/Dixie) claimed the number two singles match with a 6-3, 6-4 win.

Also putting together a strong weekend for the Tigers was freshman Anne Beauch (North Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson), who was part of the winning doubles pair and also claimed a victory at the fourth flight in singles, 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (13-11).

The Tigers split their squad between the matches Saturday at Franklin and Oberlin College because of the ITA Central Regional Tournament held at Oberlin, which drew four of the Tiger women. Senior Kat Sundstrom (Trafalgar, Ind./North Central) had the best showing, advancing all the way to the semifinals of the open division at Oberlin. That tournament wraps up the Tiger fall schedule, with the winter upcoming to prepare for the spring slate.
