Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Show Strong at Fast Chance Invitational

GAMBIER, Ohio—Coming off of 6th place finishes by both programs at the NCAC championships, Wittenberg Swimming and Diving traveled to Kenyon to compete in the Fast Chance Invitational in their last event of the 2015-16 season. The Tigers had 16 combined top six finishes, while Amy Schulz (Waterloo, Illinois/Waterloo) highlighted the strong day for the Tigers as the junior took home first place finishes in the 100 yard-backstroke with a time of 1:05.84 and again in the 100 yard-breaststroke with a time of 1:06.12.

 

WOMEN'S TOP FINISHES

  • Courtney Speakman (Springfield, Ohio/Tecumseh) finished third for the Tigers in the 200 yard-IM, recording a finals time of 2:02.40.
  • In the 100 yard-backstroke, Erin Swardenski (Fremont, California/Washington) finished at the top of the pack for the Tigers, coming in fourth with a finals time of 1:00.54.
  • Also earning a top-finish in the backstroke was Olivia Verellen (Traverse City, Michigan/West), who finished fourth in the 200 yard-backstroke with a time of 2:25:32.
  • Freshman swimmer Emily Sarver (Plain City, Ohio/Jonathan Alder) took home a fourth place finish in the second 100 yard-backstroke heat of the day with a time of 1:08.68.
  • Amber Luke (Grand Rapids, Michigan/East Grand Rapids) also placed in the 100 yard-backstroke, right behind Sarver in fifth with a time of 1:11.71.
  • Sophomore Samantha Petruzzi (Medina, Ohio/Medina) took home a fifth place finish for Wittenberg in the 200 yard-butterfly, recording a finals time of 2:13.00
  • Rounding out her day, Speakman placed sixth in the 100 yard-butterfly with a finals time of 1:05.22
  • Freshman Morgan Siefert (Xenia, Ohio/Xenia) showed strong Saturday, highlighted by a sixth place finish in the first heat of the 100 yard-backstroke with a time of 1:03.95.
  • Fellow freshman Katie Winner (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) was also a sixth place finisher, this time in the 100 yard-freestyle with a finals time of 58.71 seconds.
  • Capping of Wittenberg's day was Maggie Kramer (Glenview, Illinois/Glenbrook South), as the senior finished her Wittenberg career with a strong showing in the 200 yard-backstroke, finishing in sixth, at 2:44.53.

MEN'S TOP FINISHES

  • Kyle Smith (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) paced the men's program, taking home second place in the 200 yard-IM at 2:02.40.
  • Smith followed up his second place finish with a fifth place finish in the 200 yard-freestyle, after swimming a finals time of 1:49.94.
  • Freshman Paul Salay (Glenview, Illinois/Glenbrook South) got in on the action Saturday, finishing sixth in the 100 yard-backstroke with a time of 56.12 seconds.
