Tiger Teams Open Season At Kenyon Relays

GAMBIER, Ohio — The Wittenberg men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened the 2011-12 season officially on Saturday in the Kenyon Relays, a "relays only" meet with the swimming events hosted by Kenyon College and the diving competition at Denison University.

The Wittenberg women finished third of six NCAC teams in the field, while the men turned in a sixth-place finish among a field of seven.

The best finish for either Tiger team was turned in by the women's 200-yard breastroke relay, made up of senior Keaton Hannon (Peachtree City, Ga./McIntosh), senior Megan Tassone (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula), sophomore Clare Kozlowski (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) and sophomore Molly Gustafson (West Hartford, Conn./Conard). That quartet touched the wall in third place in a time of 2:12.98.

Two other women's relays placed fifth — the 200-yard medley relay of senior Rachel Lee (Hickory, NC/Hickory), Gustafson, Hannon and junior Ward McNulty (Glencoe, Ill./New Trier), and the 400-yard individual medley relay of Hannon, Lee, Tassone and senior Jane Tsivitse (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming).

For the Tiger men, the best finish was registered by the 200-yard breaststroke relay of freshman James Dumstorf (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier), junior Brendan Eggers (Rye, NY/Rye), sophomore Jack Ruble (Woodridge, Ill/Naperville) and freshman A.J. Burt (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming). That quartet placed eighth in a time of 1:59.18.

The Tigers kick off the dual-meet schedule when they visit Ohio Wesleyan at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28.
