One Tiger Qualifies For NCAA Division III Championship Meets

Rebecca Searcy

The Wittenberg women's swimming and diving team will have one participant in the 2005 NCAA Division III Championship meet March 10-12 at Hope College in Holland, Mich. Junior Becca Searcy (Shelbyville, Ky./Shelby County) has advanced to the national meet for the third straight year, where she will be the lone Tiger in the meet.

Searcy, who has four honorable mention All-America designations already to her credit, is ranked ninth in the nation in the 1650-yard freestyle, 23rd in the 500-yard freestyle and 18th in the 400-yard Individual Medley coming into the national meet. The top eight finishers in each event claim All-America status.

Junior Betany Yeakley (Wilmington, Ohio/Wilmington) and sophomore Jen Mulligan (Cheyney, Pa./Delaware Valley Friends) both earned provisional qualification into the meet, but neither made the final cut for the second straight year.

No Tiger men's swimmer posted a qualifying time in the 2004-05 season. It will be the first time 1992 that Wittenberg is not represented in the men's national meet.
